2021 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter recalled

The wiring defect could cause an electrical overload leading to a fire, according to the recall notice.

Mercedes-Benz Australia has recalled 57 examples of its 2021 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, citing a manufacturing defect with the van’s alternator and electric steering wiring.

It is the second recall for Mercedes-Benz’s 2021 Sprinter within a month, following a suspension recall issued at the end of August.

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: “Due to a manufacturing issue, the alternator wiring and the electric steering wiring may not be installed correctly.

“The wiring harness could be damaged due to being overloaded and could result in a vehicle fire.

“A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users, bystanders, and/or damage to property.”
