More than 4000 cars could be fitted with structurally-compromised seatbelt buckles
in Australia, according to the ACCC.The Australian compassion and consumer commission has recalled 4743 local vehicles fitted with third-party Hemco seatbelt stalk buckles, citing a manufacturing fault which could cause structural separation in a crash.
There is no comprehensive VIN list of affected cars, and motorists who think they may be affected are advised to stop driving immediately and contact Hemco
Industries (on 1300 065 057) for further information.The recall notice says: “The seat belt may separate from the anchor that holds the buckle to the seat … The seat belt may not properly restrain an occupant, increasing the risk of serious injury or death in the event of an accident.”
